some observations from the time since the last update...

1) thanks to sars and bird flu, we're getting jumpy at the very mention of the next big thing from the pathogen world. swine flu might be a problematic disease, but probably no where near the danger levels we had previously feared. are we going to respond to every subsequent disease threat like this or will we relax and then get stung in the tail when the real pandemic hits?

by the way, i am of the opinion that if it happens, it'll happen and there pretty much won't be much we can do about till someone finds a cure. if you're gonna die from the chicken worm flu or ostrich tick fever, then it's probably written down somewhere in your script and you can't do much about it apart from hope for a cure. sucks to be me if i get it, but heck... that's just life, ain't it?

2) babysitting isn't easy. especially when your nephew is an absolute handful. which leads to...

3) it's probably poetic justice that i ended up looking after my nephew as a result of allegedly giving my mom as much trouble as he does.

4) since i began babysitting, i've had songs from hi-5, higglytown heroes, charlie and loa and thomas and friends stuck in my head. though admittedly it's kinda like going through memory lane... minus the sesame street gang.

5) united seem to have returned back to their best. but will fergie ever unleash the frightening foursome of rooney, ronaldo, tevez and berbatov in a starting line-up at the same time, despite the success we had against spurs?

6) darren fletcher was unlucky to have been sent off, but considering the angle the ref viewed it at and the speed at which he has to make decisions, i can't quite complain much even though you'd really feel for the fella for trying so damn hard all the time.

7) chelski might've gotten some sympathy points for being denied some clear cut penalties, but the behaviour on show towards the referee probably killed any sympathy they could've had. understandable it might be since the ref probably did screw them over and have a horrible night, but when you take into account that the extremely likeable didier drogba (who labelled the ref an effing disgrace on a live camera that was broadcasting to millions of people around the world) missing the gilt-edged chances over the two legs and the fact that chelski didn't look quite interested in winning the game outright, you'd probably realise that any feelings of pity were probably wasted. oh, that and the fact that they were playing against 10 men factors in too.

8) l4d is freaking cool and damn bloody fun.

and lastly,

9) "mas selamat was planning hits on singapore." no shit sherlock. i thought he was going to renounce his terrorist ways and hide in seclusion somewhere in jb raising a bunch of kitty cats. guess i was wrong then.
